Uncanny X-Men #516
Dec 2009
Nation X, a story arc spinning out of Dark Reign and Utopia, continues in this issue. Mister Jeffries appears as a regular member of the X-Men Science team, having joined up in Uncanny X-Men #505. He makes a brief cameo appearance in a few panels.
A re-powered Magneto makes his grand entrance, interrupting the tail end of Dr. Takiguchi’s memorial service on the roof of Utopia Island, the new home of the X-Men. In the previous scene from Uncanny X-Men #515, the memorial service had already ended but the participants must have still been milling around to pay their respects. ”MadJeff” can be seen standing around watching Magneto’s approach, still wearing the same houndstooth patterned shirt.

I have a body, I swear. You just can't see it.
His head, one of many heads to appear in this head-heavy talky book, also appears very tiny in another scene later as Magneto falls to his knees. For some reason, there’s page after page of heads shown in close-up in this issue, hardly any bodies at all. It’s as if Greg Land had the “Zoom In” button stuck on his mental camera. Even the cover is just a giant head that barely fits. Nearly all of the heads are so big and shown in such magnification that both the brow and chin are cut off. Jeffries was lucky to be one of the few characters to have their head shown in its entirety.

Later, after Magneto settles in, Jeffries receives a signal from an incoming craft as he mans an extremely impressive communication viewscreen terminal thingy. Unable to handle the situation, he surrenders his headset to Cyclops and scans the craft. His head reports that the plane is shielded. It turns out that it’s filled with extremely deadly Predator X creatures coming to kill them all, a nice cliffhanger for the next issue.
Note: although Northstar was a member of the X-Men and was shown in the rooftop memorial scene in the previous issue, neither he nor his head appear in this issue.

What? Magneto a good guy again? I hope a mighty Marvel misunderstanding between the X-Men and Magneto takes place soon. Who else has been wanting to see Madison Jeffries take on Magneto to see who is the real Master of Magnetism?
