Uncanny X-Men #527
This issue is Part Two of the “The Five Lights” story arc, a reference to five new mutant signatures that showed up as glowing pinpoints on Cerebra’s global map at the end of Second Coming. Though released right in the middle of the larger company-wide Heroic Age storyline, and unlike issue #526, this issue does not bear a Heroic Age banner. Mister Jeffries appears in two panels as a regular member of the X-Men Science Team, having joined up in issue #505.
Similar in structure to other issues in Fraction’s run, the book contains several parallel storylines and jumps around among them. Of the twenty-two pages, nine of them are Emma Frost related beats across four different subjects. If this blog were, “Emma Frost Collector”, I’d be in heaven, but instead I’ll just have to deal with a quick cameo by Jeffries.
Two of the Emma Frost sub-plots are connected when Colossus and his ghosty girlfriend Kitty Pryde, who are unable to communicate by voice, send Mister Jeffries down into the brig to find Emma Frost. Unfortunately, Jeffries walks in during a very tense moment between Emma and Danger, leaving him to bear the brunt of her wrath, which develops into (and trust me, I know what one looks like) a full-blown tantrum. He shrinks back into the wall, left with but a nasty look and a bit of misdirected spittle.
Note: this issue also has a Women of Marvel variant with art by Sara Pichelli (penciler for another Jeffries cameo in Runaways #10)
